TSM Monitor 2 v0.0.1 is finally here
Please be aware that this release is a beta version so it might be buggy. Before installing it, we strongly recommend to read the manual first: http://www.tsm-monitor.org/wiki/doku.php
If you encounter any problems/bugs please use our new bugtracker (Mantis BugTracker) – bug reports by mail or post comments makes it really difficult for us to be coordinated. You can get help with installation/configuration/usage problems by mailing us or in this thread on adsm.org: TSM Monitor – a php project
So here’s the download: sourceforge.net
Good news: Frank Fegert joined me developing and improving TSM Monitor 2. His work not only speeds up development, it also implicates new ideas and strategies.
Thanks a lot Frank!

This is some kind of dummy release to round out the “old” TSM Monitor. V0.9 looked stable to me and all development went into 2.0 so there are no more features/bug fixes in it. The only change is that the old header has been replaced by PollD.
So if you love PollDs smile – download it
From now on PollD, the Polling Daemon hamster, is the official mascot of TSM Monitor:

TSM Monitor will never be the same
The next version will come in 2 parts: The well known web GUI which will get its information from a MySQL database and a polling daemon that queries the TSM database and stores the extracted data into the MySQL DB.
As a result, it will get those new features:
- long-term archiving of every piece of information you can get out of TSM
- 3 different storage methods (into MySQL DB):
- append (appends new data to existing data (e.g. for backup information)
- update (old data will be replaced by new data (e.g. for status information like paths)
- snapshot (new data will be always stored together with a timestamp so you can “travel back in time” and get snapshotted views of your TSM Servers)
- time machine: A little widget in the sidebar that can be used to select a point in time and receive it’s data
- search results are splitted page-wise
- better search capabilities
- better performance
- TSM independent – get access to all data without the need of active or physically present TSM servers
- own user management with grouping
- (in future versions:) PHP based admin backend to manage queries, users, etc.
As soon the new version is kind of stable, I will upload a live demo of it here. At the moment nearly everything is already implemented but still very buggy.
TSM Monitor v0.9 has just been released! It features the following new features:
- Graphical timetables are now browsable so you can go back in time. This can be done in steps of 1, 6, 12 and 24 hours in back and forward
- Tape mount history – you now can see when and how long your tape drive was occupied
- Some smaller enhancements
- And as always bugfixes
Next minor releases will have code cleanups and will be better documentated. Think we are heading towards v1.0
I’m looking for some coders who want to contribute to this project. It still lacks some features and has some bugs for sure – any help would be great. I committed all files to sourceforge SVN, so concurrent development would be no problem.
As soon it reaches v1.0, I’d like to bring it to the next level which might be a complete redesign with a collector daemon and an own database for faster querying and history data .
Please use the contact form or email me: micha (ät) tsm-monitor.org
TSM Monitor got some new features and lost some bugs
- graphical timetables are colored (green/red = success/failed)
- dynamic graphical timetables -> you can now go back in time by some hours or even days
- Tape drive usage charts
There are some bugs that need to be fixed but I’ll release v0.9 shortly.
And a big sorry for not answering to posts the last weeks – all notification mails went directy into my spam folder
If your queries have execution times longer than 30secs, you will receive (by default) a timeout in TSM Monitor. In this case, you need to increase the “max_execution_time” value in your php.ini.
The next release of TSM Monitor will set this value automatically, but you will have to disable safe_mode in order to allow TSM Monitor to change it.
